Private Moon is a visual poem telling the story of a man who met the Moon and stayed with her for the rest of his life.
Leonid Tishkov: Each photograph is a poetic tale, a little poem in its own right. Therefore each picture is accompanied by my own verse, which I wrote when I drew my sketches for the photographs. So it turns out that the Moon overcomes our loneliness in the universe uniting many of us around it.

Why is it that sometimes it takes a celebrity death to shake us up? I don’t have an answer to that. I can only vouch for its effects. There is a bell jar moment after you learn of the death of a great creative soul when you suddenly become a liquid. You’re engulfed by the war of nothingness at the front lines of battle against your interpretations of the meaning of the things these artists created. I don’t know why I sat and balled my fucking eyes out when I heard of Amy Winehouse’s overdose. Nor can I explain my immediate mourning today when the world lost Adam MCA Yauch. All I know is that there is something there that connects Amy, Whitney, Adam, and everyone expressing their condolences to these artists’ families on the viral waves of the internet. We all want the connection. We all want something to mean something. And we search for it in their music after they pass. We obsessively stock their youtube clips, ancient high school photos, and we tattoo their lyrics to our arms. We talk about them without last names as if we knew them, lived with them, fucked them, and nurtured them. Maybe in some ways we did. Maybe that’s why this creative medium will never disappear and why it was probably already here long before us.
